The mobile number portability service might be available between March-April next year after the completion of all the procedure, said Mabroor Hossain, managing director of Infozillion BD-Teletech Consortium Limited.
‘We will be ready with our equipment by the end of February next year or first week of March,’ he said.
The next job will be setting up connectivity with the mobile phone operators and it will depend on the mobile phone operators, he said.
‘It will be possible for use to start providing service once the connectivity is established with the mobile phone operators,’ he added.
He came up with the statement while speaking at a press conference organized by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to handover a notification letter to Infozillion.
MNP service will allow the mobile phone users to change operator without changing their existing number by paying Tk 30 as charge for the service.
BTRC issued the notification based on a commission decision to award MNP licence to Infozillion, said BTRC chairman Shahjahan Mahmood while speaking at the briefing.
The BTRC letter issued to Infozillion on November 1 asked the entity to deposit licence fees along with completion of some other conditions within 30 days and then the commission will issue licence, the BTRC chairman said.
Under the condition of the MNP licence, the operator will get 180 days to roll-out its service, he said.
Within the period, Infozillion will have to port 1 per cent of the total subscribers and 5 per cent within 1 year and 10 per cent within 5 years, BTRC chairman said.
BTRC commissioners Jahurul Haque, Md Rezaul Quader, Md Aminul Hassan, its director generals AKM Shahiduzzaman and Brigadier General Md Emdad ul Bar and Teletec director Tomislav Gacnik, among other, were present.
