Cameroon deputy speaker of National Parliament, Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, has been elected as the next chairperson of the executive committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association for three years.
Lifaka got 107 votes out of a total 192 vote casted in two hours long secret ballot at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The other candidates for the CPA chairperson Niki Rattle, speaker of Cook Islands , Pacific got 70 votes while Shirly M Osborne , MLA of Monserrat got 15 votes.
All three candidates are female.
CPA secretary general Akbar Khan announced the results of the vote.
Supporters of newly elected CPA chairperson, Lifaka burst into joy following announcement of her name as victorious in dancing and singing by their native languages.
