Three-day int’l footwear, leather goods sourcing show starts Nov 16

The first ever Bangladesh Leather Footwear and Leather goods International Sourcing Show-2017 is going to start on November 16 in Dhaka to show the strength of the local industry to the global buyers and brands.
Under the initiative of export product diversification, the government declared lather products as the product of the year-2017.
To promote the export products beyond readymade garments, the government in association with the Leather goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh is organising the international sourcing show.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the three-day event under the thematic tagline ‘Think ahead, think Bangladesh’ at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the city.
A total of 32 leather and leather goods companies in Bangladesh will showcase their products in seven pavilions and 25 stands in the event, the LFMEAB president Md Saiful Islam said in a press conference held at Westin
Hotel in the capital on Sunday.
He said the purpose of this show is to turn Bangladesh into a sourcing hub by bringing buyers, global retailers, international sourcing agents to see the quality and range of products, enabling direct interaction with local
manufacturers and exporters.
Representatives from 30 countries including 16 delegations from the member countries of the Confederation of International Footwear associations are expected to attend the event, Saiful said.
Saiful said the LFMEAB would organise this show every year from now on.
Commerce secretary Shubhashish Bose said that following the deceleration of Product of the Year’ 2017 among other activities round the year, the LFMEAB and the commerce ministry conceived the idea to organise BLLISS 2017.
He hoped that this show will be instrumental in achieving $5 billion export earnings target from leather products by 2021.
Deputy head of mission of German embassy in Dhaka Michael Schultheiss, director general of Brussels based Foreign Trade Association Christian Ewert, and managing director of Patenga Footwear Ltd Chen Shao Tseng spoke at the press conference.
