Dhaka South city mayor Sayeed Khokon said all grabbed canals in Dhaka city will be retrieved by phases to lessen the water stagnation in the capital.
‘Under the joint initiative of Dhaka district administration, DSCC and Dhaka WASA, the drive to retrieve the canals started today. This drive will continue until the grabbed canals will be retrieved to lessen the suffering of city dwellers due to water-logging,’ he told a function titled ‘Public Representative and People: Face to Face’ at Chankharpool intersection in Dhaka on Thursday.
Councillor of no 27 ward Omar Bin Aziz chaired the function while DSCC chief executive officer Khan Mohammad Belal, officials of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, WASA and councillors of different wards were present on the occasion, among others.
The mayor also sought cooperation from the city dwellers to this end.
Sayeed Khokon said drive will be carried out to retrieve those canals which have no legal complexity and court’s embargo.
On the occasion, the mayor listened to different problems from the locals and gave directives to resolve the problems.
