Left student wing Bangladesh Chhatra Union brought out a procession and held a rally on Dhaka University campus on Monday demanding immediate Dhaka University Central Students’ Union polls.
Leaders and activists of the organisation brought out the procession from Madhu’s canteen of the university which paraded several streets on the campus and ended at Aparajeyo Bangla where the rally was held.
While addressing the rally, union leaders said that as per the Dhaka University Ordinance 1973, there should be elected student representatives in senate.
But there was no student representative in senate for the last twenty-seven years as no student union polls were held in all these years, they said.
The university administration and teachers became autocratic day by day as there was no student representative in senate to place their demands, the student leaders said.
They also urged to the authorities concerned to hold DUCSU elections within six months.
