The ninth founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur was observed on Thursday amid festivity and fanfare.
Vice-chancellor Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah inaugurated the celebration hoisting national flag in the morning, said a press release.
He later placed wreaths at the portraits of the country’s founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and great woman Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain.
Professor Kalimullah led a colourful rally that paraded the campus. Deans of all six faculties, heads of all 21 departments, teaches, students, officials and employees of the university participated in procession, added the release.
The teachers and students of different departments also took part in the academic fair and blood group test programmes in the afternoon on the campus.
A colourful cultural function was also arranged on the occasion. A special milad mahfil followed by offering prayers was held after zuhr parlays at the central mosque of the university. In the evening, chairman of parliamentary standing committee on public administration ministry HN Ashikur Rahman, MP, attended a discussion as the chief guest.
Chairman of Rangpur Zila Parishad Chhafia Khanom, deans of different faculties and president of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman addressed the discussion as special guests.
Professor Sharifa Salowa Dina presented an article on ‘Higher Education for Developing Human Resources’ in the discussion while Professor RM Hafizur Rahman took part as the main discussant.
After the discussion, popular band parties participated in a concert held on the campus at night, the release added.
