Bogra police on Thursday detained two suspected Rohingya women and a child while they were trying to obtain Bangladeshi passports.
The detained were identified as Amena Khatun, 45, her daughter Hajera Bibi, 22, and her son Osman Ghani, 5.
Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge Emdad Hossain claimed that Amena admitted to them that they had reached Bogra four days ago with the help of a middle man named Abdul Mannan from a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.
After coming to Bogra, they were living at the middle man’s house at Tarapur village of Dupchanchia upazila in the district, he added.
The police said that they first suspected them as Rohingya because of their language. Later, they confirmed as they confessed to them.
The police official said that they were trying to send them back to the Rohingya camp.
He said, ‘Amena told them that they were trying to obtain Bangladeshi passports for travelling to either Indonesia or Malaysia where they have relatives.’
