Today is the tenth anniversary of death of veteran journalist and literateur Obaidul Huq.
Journalist Obaidul Huq breathed his last on October 13 in 2007 at his Banani residence, said a press release on Thursday.
Obaidul Huq was the editor of The Bangladesh Observer for 12 years since 1972.
After leaving The Bangladesh Observer, he served as the editor of the now defunct newspaper the Daily News.
He also served as the chairman of the Press Institute of Bangladesh, Nazrul Institute, Dainik Bangla and the trustee board of Bangladesh Times.
In 1946, he made a feature film as the first Bengali Muslim filmmaker called ‘Dukkhhe Jader Jibon Gora’.
Obaidul Huq was recognised with the Bangla Academy Award in 1964 for drama writing and was honoured with the ‘Ekushey Padak’ in 1983. He was also awarded the UNICEF Gold Medal for journalism.
