Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday announced countrywide ‘protest programme’ on Saturday for issuance of fresh arrest warrants against the party chairperson Khaleda Zia in a ‘false’ defamation case and cancelling her bail in a graft case.
A Dhaka metropolitan court on Thursday issued arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia for not appearing before the court on Thursday in a case for disrespecting the country’s national flag and the independence.
A special judge court in Dhaka issued another arrest warrant against her cancelling Khaleda’s bail in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Earlier, on Monday, a Comilla court issued warrant for arrest of Khaleda in an arson case.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the party’s central office announced the programme.
He said the arrest warrants were issued at the directive of the government.
Rizvi alleged that the arrest warrant by cancelling Khaleda’ bail was issued at the directive of the highest place of the government.
He said Khaleda who is now in London usually appeared before court while stayed in the country.
Rizvi said she was under treatment and regular check-up in London and would return home soon.
Issuing arrest warrant one after another in false cases against her when Khaleda’s return is imminent, is the part of the government’s ‘evil tactics’.
Asked about nature of protest programme, Rizvi said it likes protest procession and protest rally the party’s units would carry out according to their convenience.
