A national seminar on Environmental and Morphological Study for Development of the Land at Moheshkhali Island by Dredging Chars, Shoals for Land-based LNG Terminal was held in the capital on Wednesday.
Institute of Water Modelling in association with Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited organised the consultation workshop at RAOWA Convention Hall of Mohakhali.
Petrobangla chairman Abul Mansur Md Faizullah, IWM executive director Professor Monowar Hossain and managing director of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited Quamruzzaman, among others, spoke at the seminar.
A number of presentations were made in the technical session of the seminar by the relevant experts of study team on physical baseline and likely impacts, biological baseline and likely impacts, socio-economical environment and likely impacts, environmental management plan and monitoring plan.
High officials, experts and decision-makers from the relevant ministries, representatives from different government and non-government organisations took part in the discussion.
Petrobangla carried out a feasibility study for development of land at Moheshkhali by dredging chars, shoals for land-based LNG terminal.
The study selected a site on the north western corner of the Sonadia Island from two potential sites considering technical and economic aspects and recommended a detailed environmental impact assessment before implementation of the project.
