Popular theatre troupe Prachyanat is going to participate at the Asian Youth Theatre Festival-2017 which is going to be held from October 13 to 15 in Singapore.
The troupe will present two shows of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin’s Beder Meye at the three-day festival, which is going to be organised by Singapore-based Birds Theatre Company. In total 10 troupes, five local troupes of Singapore and one from each of the five participating countries Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, The Philippines and Bangladesh, will stage their productions at the event. The festival will also include workshops, seminars, art and craft fair and other events.
About the trip, Saiful Islam Journal, a senior member of the troupe and also director of the play, said Prachyanat has selected the play as it contains elements from the folk culture of Bangladesh. ‘We have included different folk performing art forms including Gazir Gan, Pala Gaan, Jari and Sari Gaan, and others in the play,’ said Saiful, who added that the troupe will also conduct a workshop on folk music of Bangladesh as part of the event.
A 12 member team from Prachyanat will fly for Singapore today.
