A last moment strike by super-sub Mithun Chowdhury helped Mohammedan Sporting Club secure a dramatic 2-1 win against Muktijoddha Sangshad Krira Chakra in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra were held to a 1-1 draw by Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in the first match of the day.
Mohammedan came from a goal down to seal the victory, thanks to one goal each by Nigerian forward Nkwocha Kingsley and Mithun after Ghanaian defender Abbas Inusha put Muktijoddha ahead from the penalty spot.
The win took Mohammedan to fifth position of the table with 14 points from 10 matches while Muktijoddha remained on ninth position with seven points.
Muktijoddha went to the break with a 1-0 lead with Inusha making no mistake to convert the penalty after Mohammedan defender Monjurur Rahman brought Hasanuzzaman Kayes down inside the box in the added minutes.
Mohammedan levelled the margin in the 63rd minute when Nigerian forward Nkwocha Kingsley made a calm finish from the left corner of the box following a neat through from his compatriot Samson Illiasu.
Mithun, who came from the bench to replace Biplu Ahmed in the 80th minute, scored the winner in the last of the five additional minutes by placing home from the left corner of the box following a pass from Illiasu.
Meanwhile, the day’s first match Shahedul Alam gave Russell the lead in the 11th minute before Ghanaian forward Ismail Bangoura equalised in the 74th minute.
