Seasoned jatra artiste and jatra movement leader Milon Kanti Dey paid tribute to late poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq through a solo recitation show held at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
The show featured recitation of popular poems of Syed Shamsul Haq and other leading Bengali poets.
‘Syed Shamsul Haq, who died last year on September 27, was a mentor to me. He always inspired us and stood beside the jatra artistes whenever we needed him’, said Milon Kanti Dey, who is also owner of jatra troupe Desh Opera.
Dey began the show reciting Syed Shamsul Haq’s famous poem Amar Parichay. He recited poems like Muchhe Felo Michhe Ashru Tomar, Nijeke Thik Tomar Jonno and others at the event.
Milon Kanti Dey, a powerful actor on stage, recited excerpts from Syed Shamsul Haq’s famous verse play Nuroldiner Sara Jibon in his stentorian voice.
Dey next recited a few sonnets from Syed Haq’s famous collection of sonnets- Poraner Gahin Bhitor.
Alongside poems of Haq, Dey also recited poems like Nirjharer Swapnabhanga, Sonar Tori and Debatar Gras penned by Rabindranath Tagore, Bidrohi and Manush penned by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Banolota Sen and Banglar Mukh Ami Dekhiyachhi of poet Jibanananda Das, Keu Kotha Rakheni of Sunil Gangopadyay and some others.
Dey ended the programme with recitation of his self penned poem Hey Banglar Kabi, which he dedicated to Syed Shamsul Haq.
