Eminent Baul singer Shafi Mandol is set to perform today on the second day of Dhaka International Folk Festival at the Army Stadium in Dhaka.
But performing at the event is going to be painful, he said, as he will have to do it without the Lalon singer Rob Fakir with whom he shared this stage last year.
Rob Fakir died in August this year.
‘I am going to dedicate my performance to Rob Bhai, who left us a few months ago. I will also sing two numbers that Rob Bhai was particularly fond of,’ said Shafi Mandol.
The two Lalon numbers are Chatok Banche Kemon-ey and Raag Anuraag Bandha Achhe Jaar. He will also present a folk number titled ‘Mon Mandirey Puja Debo.’
‘Those of us who had the chance to be in the company of Rob Bhai still miss him a lot. My last performance with him was on this stage in the 2015 edition, so it is going to be painful for me to perform here,’ said Shafi.
On a different note, he said he is happy to be able to represent the country’s folk music at such an event where prominent singers from different countries will present the folk music of their respective regions.
