Dinajpur Barapukuria Coalmine Labour Union organised a human chain on Wednesday in demand of monthly wage under a pay scale.
The miners of the Chinese coalmining company, XMC/CMC, started the human chain at 11:30am in front of the main entrance of the mine.
At the programme, coalmine labour union chairman MD Rabiul Islam said that a new contract of the labourers with Barapukuria Coalmining Company started on August 11, 2017.
In the new contract, he said, the labourers had demanded that their jobs be made permanent but the ministry of power declared a financial package, which the workers also accepted and started their work.
He claimed that the wage of August was supposed to be paid by September 5 but they were yet get their wages, leaving them to lead a very inhuman life.
They sought cooperation from Petrobangla to solve the problem according to the contract and warned that if otherwise they would go for tougher step after September 28.
General secretary of Barapukuria Coalmine Labour Union Md Abu Sufian, organisational secretary Md Liton, vice-president Md Morsalin, financial secretary Md Hajrat Ali, former general secretary Md Nur Islam were present.
