Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday alleged that the government after holding meeting with rice traders and mill owners could not bring down the soaring  price  of rice.

The party urged the government to immediately bring the price of all kinds of rice including OMS under the purchasing capacity of people.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir  Rizvi at a news briefing  at the party central office made the statements.

He claimed that price of rice did not decrease after meeting of ministers with traders on Tuesday.

Rizvi said the commerce minister's statement made two days ago that the rice traders and owners of mills gave assurance to reduce price of rice by Tk two to Tk three was  nothing but 'rhetoric'.

Because, still it did not put any impact on the market, the BNP leader said mentioning that the coarse rice was sold at Tk 55 per killogram and semi fine rice at Tk 65 to Tk 70 on Wednesday.

He said the statements of the ministers over price of rice turned into 'blatant lie'.

Rizvi alleged that prices of rice increased due to unethical activities of  food grain traders’ syndicates and hoarders all of whom have linked with the ruling party.
