Case filed against six cops for torturing madrasah teacher to death

The family of the madrassah teacher, who died at Satkhira Sadar Hospital on September 16 allegedly after being tortured by the police, lodged a murder case with a Satkhira court on Tuesday accusing four police officers and two constables of Satkhira Sadar police.
The victim’s elder brother Md Bazlur Rahman lodged the case with the Satkhira cognisance court-1 accusing sub-inspector
Asaduzzaman, 38, SI Paik Delwar Hossain, 40, assistant sub-inspector Sheikh Sumon Hasan, 35, ASI Ashrafuzzaman, 36, and two unidentified constables of the police station for torturing Saidur Rahman, 45, superintendent of Baksha-Hatathganj Dakhil Madrassah under Kalaroa in Satkhira.
Judge Habibullah Mahmud of the court took the case into cognisance and asked the police bureau of investigation to probe the case and submit the report within 30 working days.
Bazlur, in his case, alleged that the six police personnel by three motorcycles had gone to their residence at village Kathanda under Satkhira Sadar upazila, knocked on the door of Bazlur’s house around 2:00am on September 15. As Saidur told them that he had no case filed against him and that he would not open doors to the policemen without any warrant of arrest. Then the police started kicking on the door.
The case statement said that Saidur’s wife then opened the door and the accused stormed into the bedroom and handcuffed Saidur and demanded Tk 1 lakh.
When told that they were unable to pay the money, the accused policemen dragged him to the yard and beat him indiscriminately before taking him to the police station.
On September 15 at 10:00am, when the plaintiff went to the police station, SI Asaduzzaman told him that they would not release Saidur if the family failed to pay Tk 1 lakh, the case statement alleged.
The plaintiff alleged that the accused people, in a bid to kill his brother, beat him indiscriminately in police custody.
At one stage, when Saidur agreed to pay the money, the accused stopped beating, Bazlur said, adding that brother then informed him that he had been suffering from profuse bleeding through rectum.
After sometimes, he was sent to court, where Saidur said that his bleeding was still continuing and that his whole body had swelled due to beating and he had no strength to stand up.
The statement said that he was later sent to jail where his condition deteriorated and the jail authorities sent him to Satkhira Sadar Hospital around 2:00am on September 16 and he died there around 5:00am.
The plaintiff alleged that they, on information, went to hospital around 4:00am, but the police drove them out.
The plaintiff sought justice to the court.
