A housewife was admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital early Monday, hours after she received burn injuries on her face and body as her husband allegedly poured boiling water as a sequel of quarrel over payment of installment of microcredit loan Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Taslima, 23, wife of Abdul Jalil, 30, of Pathantek under Shripur in Gazipur.
The victim’s relatives and Shripur police said Jalil forced his wife to take microcredit loan of Tk 20,000 from a non-governmental organisation about a month ago and the victim used to pay Tk 550 in a week.
On Sunday night, when Taslima had been cooking rice she asked her husband to arrange this week’s instalment and they were locked into a quarrel on this matter as her husband asked her to pay her loan, they said.
They said at one stage of quarrel, Jalil beat her mercilessly and poured boiling water on her and fled away leaving her burnt on face and other parts of the body.
The locals, on hearing Taslima’s cry, rescued her and took her to Shripur Upazila Health Complex from where he was referred to STMCH in Gazipur as her condition deteriorated.
Sub-inspector Jamil Uddin Rashed of Shripur police station said Taslima lodged a case with the police station in this connection and police were launching drives to arrest Jalil.
