Wednesday was the birthday of Sheikh Rehana, daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and younger sister of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, but she refrained from cutting any cake and holding any programme being sympathetic with Rohingyas.
Sheikh Rehana, who visited on Tuesday Rohingya camps at Kutupalong of Cox’s Baza’s Ukhiya with prime minister Sheikh Hasina, took this decision from humanitarian point of view, planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists after the ECNEC meeting.
He said, ‘Food items prepared on the occasion of her birthday were sent to orphanages.’
Sheikh Rehana was born on September 13, 1955.
During the visit to Rohingya camps of Kutupalong, Sheikh Rehana became emotional and embraced women and children when they were telling the prime minister about the torture and repression they had to face in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
