Noted cellist Philip Hazra and Russian pianist Yulia Evdokimova entertained the audience at a western classical music concert held at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in Dhanmondi on Friday.
The artistes in duet played a number of timeless western classical compositions like L.V. Beethoven’s Minuet, C. Saint-Saens’ The Swan, R. Schuman’s Traumerei, C. Gounod’s Ave Maria, P. Simon’s A. Garfunkel, Scarborough Fair and more at the event titled ‘Cello-Piano-Audio 2’.
The first edition of AFD’s instrumental concert titled ‘Cello-Piano-Audio’, which was held in May, received a huge response from the audience.
A large audience gathered at the venue to enjoy the second edition of the show on Friday.
‘I don’t understand western classical music but I do enjoy the sound of piano and cello. I have really enjoyed the performances by both of the artistes. I hope that they will arrange more such events in future,’ Jinia Ahmed, an audience member, told New Age.
Philip Hazra has been promoting western classical music in Bangladesh through teaching violin, viola, cello and double bass. He has been teaching violin and cello at Alliance Française de Dhaka since 2007. On the other hand, Russian instrumentalist Yulia Evdokimova has also been teaching piano in Bangladesh for the last twenty years.
