The weeklong income tax fair that began on November 1 across the country drew bigger crowd on Sunday, helping the National Board of Revenue collect Tk 310.59 crore in revenues on the day.
Today [Monday] is the last day of the seventh national income tax fair. The fair will remain open for visitors from 10:00am to 5:00pm today.
With Sunday’s receipt, the total income tax collection in six days of the fair stood at Tk 1,727 crore, according to the NBR data.
The amount of collection was Tk 1,640 crore in the same period in last year’s fair.
Taxpayers and potential taxpayers rushed to the fair venues on Sunday, the penultimate day of the fair, ignoring the rush of the first working day of the week.
Taxmen were also seen providing services to the taxpayers who were inside the fair venues even after the closing time (5:00pm).
More than 1.39 lakh people visited the fair venues across the country on Sunday and received different tax-related services, making the number of total visitors to 7.77 lakh in six days, according to the NBR.
A total of 1.49 lakh taxpayers submitted income tax returns in six days of the fair against 1.22 lakh taxpayers in the same period last year.
Some 4,559 taxpayers also received user ID and password for getting access to the online tax returns system.
At the end of the sixth day, the number of total e-TIN registration was 31,781 against 13,013 in the same period of last year’s fair.
