Gana Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain said on Wednesday that flouting the verdict of Supreme Court was showing disrespect to the constitution.
Addressing a discussion marking the National Mourning Day at the National Press Club, the veteran jurist referred to the articles 111 and 112 of the constitution, which
stipulate that all must accept a Supreme Court verdict.
Without blaming the critics of SC’s observations in the verdict scrapping the 16th amendment to the constitution, Kamal
came up with the remarks at the discussion titled ‘Bangabandhu for the poor’.
Dhaka city unit of Gana Forum arranged the discussion.
Kamal recalled that the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s politics had relied on the support of the poor and disadvantaged people and had led a people’s struggle for freedom from economic inequality and social deprivation. ‘Unfortunately, the ruling party and flag bearer of Mujib’s political ideology is doing otherwise,’ Kamal said.
Terming most of the ruling politicians as corrupt, Gana Forum leader Zaglul Hayder said that Mujib had warned the people against corruption as it shuttered people’s hope for equality and freedom.
Mostafa Mohsin presided over the event. Lawyer Subrata Chowdhury also addressed the discussion.
