The National Human Rights Commission chairman Kazi Riazul Haque said on Sunday that raping and torturing a female college student and her mother by ruling party activist Tufan Sarker was a troubling issue for the government.

Addressing a discussion in Bogra, he said that the rape accused Tufan ‘ashamed’ the whole the nation.

He said the government should ensure security and justice to all victims including raped and tortured by ruling party activists for regaining its positive image.

The NHRC, the district administration and UNDP’s human rights programme organised the discussion on crimes against women where the district’s senior officials from administration, law enforcement agencies, lawyers and student, among others, were present.
