Members of Rapid Action Battalion on Saturday arrested an absconding death row war crimes convict from Barshikula in Itna of Kishoreganj.
The arrestee, Md Hafiz Uddin, of Khudirjangal area of Karimganj had been in hiding at one of his relative’s house at Barshikula.
This is the first time that the law enforcing agency could to arrest an absconding death row war crimes convict.
‘We arrested Hafiz from the village around 2:00pm on Saturday,’ said RAB-14 crimes prevention company-2 commander Md Hasan Mostofa Swapan, also an additional superintendent of police.
He said that they might handover the convict to police or the prison authority on completion of their official procedure.
Hafiz is one of the five convicts in a war crimes case of Karimganj in Kishoreganj.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on May 3, 2016 sentenced four of them to death and the other to die in jail.
