Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, on Friday announced three-day demonstrations at all the bars across the country demanding removal and arrest of former chief justice and incumbent chairman of Law Commission ABM Khairul Haque following his recent remarks on the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped 16th amendment to the constitution.
The demonstrations were called also to protest at remarks made by ministers ‘tarnishing’ the image of the SC.
After the Appellate Division’s verdict, justice Khairul said, it appeared to him that ‘We are no longer in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, rather we are in Judges’ Republic of Bangladesh.’
Supreme Court Bar Association secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon, also BNP joint secretary general, at a news briefing at BNP central office announced the demonstrations for Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The former chief justice on Wednesday called the Appellate Division judges ‘immature’ for calling parliament and lawmakers dysfunctional and immature in the verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment.
