Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, a platform of pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawyers, on Friday, announced three-day demonstrations at all bars across the country demanding the removal and arrest of former chief justice and incumbent chairman of Law Commission ABM Khairul Haque.
The demands came following Khairul Haque’s recent remarks on the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped 16th amendment to the constitution.
The former chief justice on Wednesday called the Appellate Division judges ‘immature’ for terming parliament and lawmakers dysfunctional and the verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution as ‘preconceived’.
After the Appellate Division’s verdict, said Justice Khairul, it appears to him, ‘We are no longer in People’s Republic of Bangladesh, rather we are in Judges’ Republic of Bangladesh.’
Supreme Court Bar Association secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, also BNP joint secretary general, at a news briefing at BNP central office announced the demos for Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.
