Scrapping of 16th amendment makes some quarters happy:  Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said some quarters were so happy after scrapping of the 16th amendment of the constitution by the appellate division of the Supreme Court.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said that after scrapping of the amendment they had found light of hope.

'But this hope will not sustain long and the issue would be resolved soon,' Quader said.     

He was addressing at a programme at National Press Club, to mark 68th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the conuntry’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, organised by 'Satirtha-Swajan' of Sheikh Kamal.

The country is now facing some problems and overall the situation was not so good, he said.

'Some quarters are conspiring against Sheikh Hasina being jealous for her success and looking for issues to wage movements against the government,' Quader added.

Chaired by journalist Abed Khan, Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddque, Awami League sports and youth secretary Harun-or-Rashid, National Press Club president Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and actor Pijush Bandyapadhya took part in discussion.
