India’s Border Security Force picked up a Bangladeshi at Burimari border under Patgram in Lalmonirhat Wednesday morning.
The arrested was Liton Mia, 18, son of Hafizur Rahman, a resident of village Sreerampur in the upazila.
BSF personnel picked up Liton around 4:30am when he had gone to the border area along with a group of cattle traders, said director of battalion 15 of Border Guard Bangladesh Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed.
When the BSF personnel opened fire on the Bangladeshis, Liton was shot while the others managed to escape.
Sources said that Liton was also brutally beaten up by the BSF members.
When BGB officials called for a flag meeting following the incident, the officials of BSF-61 of Koch Bihar held a meeting with BGB officials at the Burimari zero point around 11:00am where they informed that Liton had been handed over to Indian police, Golam Morshed said.
