Dhaka University mass communication and journalism department teacher Fahmidul Huq, who was sued under section 57 of Information and Communication Technology act by one of his colleagues, expressed his regret for his Facebook post.
Professor Abul Mansur Ahmed of the same department last week sued Fahmidul under the controversial act, accusing him of making a derogatory remark in a closed Facebook group.
After a three-hour long meeting of the academic committee of the department on Sunday, Fahmid, who had previously accused Mansur of delaying in the publishing the result of master degree examinations expressed his regret in another post.
Fahmid in his previous Facebook post alleged that Mansur had influenced media for making a false report against another renowned teacher of the department, Gitiara Nasreen.
Following his formal regret, Professor Mansur also expressed his willingness to withdraw the case, said a press release signed by journalism department chairman Professor Mofizur Rahman.
Fahmidul could not be reached over phone for his comments.
Professor Mansur faced widespread criticism after suing a fellow teacher under controversial section 57 of ICT act, which was considered as a threat to freedom of expression.
