A Dhaka court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against cricketer Arafat Sunny in a dowry case filed by his wife.
The court, earlier, also framed charges against him to start trial officially in the case.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu passed the order.
Muraduzzaman, Arafat’s lawyer, said, ‘The case was scheduled for charge hearing on Sunday. But the accused Arafat Sunny could not appear before the court as he has been affected by Chikungunya.’
‘A petition was filed seeking time, but the court rejected it and ordered to frame charges after issuing arrest warrant against him,’ he added.
Nasrin Sultana, whom sunny married secretly, filed the lawsuit on January 23 alleging that he demanded Tk 20 lakh from her as dowry.
She had also lodged a case against him earlier under information and communication technology act that put Sunny behind bars. Later, he got bail in the case.
