Bangladesh Railway is going to take different precautionary initiatives to keep rail communication uninterrupted and minimise losses in case of any accident this rainy season, officials have said.
Till now no major damage was caused to railway property, they said at a programme held at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Sunday.
Railways minister Md Mazibul Hoque said during the rainy season water disrupted rail communication and its signalling system.
So they took precautionary steps to check the problems like every year.
BR additional director general Habibur Rahman said at some places in Ashuganj and Bhairab soil was removed from railway tracks this season.
But they immediately took action and the communication stayed normal, he claimed.
The precautionary initiatives includes strengthen night signal, engine foot plate, night and cursory inspections, regular patrolling of tracks, bridges and culverts in flood prone areas and keep ready ballast trains which are used to repair tracks and other structures.
Controlling speed and keeping ready medical teams in case of any emergency are among the precautionary steps.
The railway also requests Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Water Development Board, Bangladesh Power Development Board, local administrations, law enforcing agencies and other government agencies in especial cases.
The programme was attended, among others, by railways ministry secretary Mofazzel Hossian.
