Bangladesh Sangeet Sanghatan Samannay Parishad paid tribute to recently demised Nazrul exponents Sudhin Das and Karunamaya Goswami through a programme at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
Cultural personality Kamal Lohani, professor emeritus Rafiqul Islam, noted writer Ali Imam, Nazrul singer Sadiya Afreen Mallick, vice-present of BSSSP Mahmud Selim, its general secretary Bishwajit Roy and others spoke on life and contribution of Nazrul artiste Sudhin Das and Nazrul researcher Karunamaya Goswami at the programme.
Kamal Lohani said he used to hang out with Sudhin Das, Kalim Sharafi and Abdul Alim near Dhanmondi Lake. ‘All of them were enlightened personalities. They have made significant contribution to the cultural area of the country,’ said Kamal Lohani.
‘Karunamaya used to teach at Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj and many of his former students are now prominent figures in country’s cultural and political arena,’ Lohani added.
Rafiqul Islam said Sudhin Das devoted his life to preserve national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs by writing notation of the songs.
‘He wrote notations of Nazrul Sangeet and trained many prominent Nazrul artistes of the country.
Now it is up to us to promote his works,’ said Rafiqul Islam.
Nazrul artiste Sadiya Afreen Mallick recalled Sudhin Das on the occasion.
Artistes of music organsiation Uttrayan in group rendition presented a Tagore song Dukher Timire Jodi Jole at the event.
Fahim Hossain Chowdhury rendered Tagore song Jibon Moroner Shima Chhariye, while Salauddin Ahmed sang popular Nazrul song Mrittu Nai Dukkho Nai at the programme.
