Professor Hayat Mamud was felicitated on his 78th birthday on Wednesday at a programme at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the programme as the chief guest, while Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan presided over the programme.
Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Bulbul Mohalanabish rendered Tagore song Aloker Ei Jharna Dharay to begin the programme where Mamud’s friends and peers congratulated him.
‘Hayat Mamud is a versatile man with interest in literature and culture. I have had the chance to spend time with him on many occasions. A truly learned man, Mamhud is also a man of wit’, said Asaduzzaman Noor.
‘Hayat Mamud has enriched us with his knowledge and that is reflected in his writings. I wish him a long and active life’, said Shamsuzzaman Khan.
Hayat Mamud, in his speech, thanked all for their love and wishes. ‘I am overwhelmed by seeing your love for me’, said Mamud.
Hayat Mamud was born in Hooghly, West Bengal in 1939. He completed Bachelor and Masters in Bangla Literature from Dhaka University. He did a Ph. D on contemporary literature from Jadavpur University. For several years he taught at Jahangirnagar University. Mamud received Bangla Academy Award for children’s literature.
