The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judges’ Court on Monday granted bail for Liberation War historian Afsan Chowdhury, also BRAC University professor, for one month in a case under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006 for his Facebook comments.
Metropolitan sessions judge Kamrun Hasan Mollah passed the order after hearing Afsan Chowdhury’s petition for bail on his surrender to the court.
Earlier, on June 12, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to him for four weeks in the case.
Retired lieutenant general Masud Uddin Chowdhry filed the case on June 7, one month after Afsan Chowdhury posted the comments on his Facebook page on May 7 on Masud’s reported ownership of Picasso Restaurant.
Masud alleged that Afsan had defamed him in his ‘false, concocted and baseless’ comment about Picasso Restaurant’s ownership co-owned by Masud’s wife.
