A mild tremor jolted Sylhet city and its adjoining areas on Sunday noon.
According to Sylhet Met Office, the earthquake of 4.7 magnitude on the Richter scale hit at 11:30am of the local time that lasted for a few seconds.
Sylhet Met Office assistant meteorologist Abu Sayeed Chowdhury told New Age that the epicenter of the earthquake was at Assam province in India, 283km east of the Sylhet city.
When contacted, Sylhet deputy commissioner Rahat Anwar said any casualty was not reported following the earthquake.
