Six killed in road accidents in four districts

At least six people including a member of police were killed while 21 others injured in separate road accidents at places in four districts on Thursday night and Friday.

In Munshiganj, a member of police was killed in a road accident while carrying out duty on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Gazaria upazila early Friday, reports our correspondent.

The victim was identified as Shahidul Islam Shahid, 35, a resident of Jaipurhat. He had been serving as a constable in Bhaberchar highway police outpost.

A Dhaka-bound bus of S Alam Paribahan went out of order in Anarpura area early hours of Friday, said sub-inspector Hashem Munshi, in charge of the highway police outpost.

Shahidul along with other police members was busy to tow away the vehicle with a wrecker, he said.

A speedy car ran over Shahidul around 5:30am while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot, Hashem Munshi said.

The body was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.

In Gaibandha, an assistant of a truck driver was killed as their truck, laden with cattle heads, hit another one in Dublagari area of Palashbari upazila early Friday, reports United News of Bangladesh.

The deceased was identified as Sadhon Chandra.

Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj highway police station, said that the accident took place when the cattle-laden truck rammed another potato-laden truck, leaving Sadhon dead on the spot.

In Rangpur, three people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident at Taraganj point on Dhaka-Thakurgaon Highway under Taraganj upazila on Thursday night, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus of Hanif Enterprise from Debiganj in Panchagarh hit another Dhaka-bound bus of Asia Exclusive from behind around 10:30pm, said Abdul Latif Mia, officer-in-charge of Taraganj police station.

The Asia Exclusive from Thakurgaon was parked by roadside when the accident took place, killing three people on the spot and injuring eight passengers of both the buses.

The deceased were identified as Ruhul Amin, 36, of Thakurgaon, a passenger of Asia Exclusive, Ruhul Amin, 36, of Nilphamari, the supervisor of Hanif Enterprise, and its driver’s assistant Motaleb Hossain, 35, of Tangail.

The injured were sent to Taraganj Upazila Health Complex from where most of them were released after first aid, said Abdullahil Baki, officer-in-charge of Ekorchali highway police outpost in Taraganj upazila.

Two of the injured were referred to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital later.

In Chittagong, a youth was killed and 13 other teenage boys were injured in a collision between a mini truck and a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway near Baro Aulia Mazar area in Sitakunda upazila Thursday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rasel, 20, son of Bahar Uddin, a resident of Feni.

Saleh Ahmmed Pathan, officer-in-charge of Baro Aulia highway police outpost, said the mini truck carrying a group of teenage boys collided with the covered van in front of Sonaichhari High School in the afternoon, leaving 14 people injured.

Nine of the injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital where Rasel succumbed to his injuries around 10:00pm.

Five other injured were admitted to Bhatiari BSBA Hospital.
