Three school students, including two siblings, drowned in a pond at village Tekpara in Cox’s Bazar sadar upazila on Sunday morning.
Locals said five students — Tasmir Ahmed Manir, 11, Abdul Aziz, 12, Tareq, 11, Abdullah, 13, and his younger brother Tuhin, 08 — who were the residents of village Hazipara came to Tekpara to take a bath in a pond in the morning.
While taking bath in the pond, the boys went to the middle of the pond riding a raft.
However, the raft unfortunately turned turtle, leaving the five boys drowned.
Of them, Aziz and Tareq managed to swim ashore while Manir, Abdullah and Tuhin drowned, said sub-inspector Khayeruzzaman, in-charge of Eidgah investigation centre, quoting locals.
A pall of gloom descended the area following the incident.
