More than 700 vehicles were waiting at Shimulia pontoon to cross the River Padma on Friday morning.

Officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation said the queues of vehicles might be longer with the passage of time.

Shimulia pontoon manager Shah Newaz of BIWTC said the pressure of vehicles increased since morning.

A number of 18 ferries were operating on Shimulia-Kanthalbari route, he said.

Vehicles carrying passengers were being given priority, Shah Newaz added.
