37 public universities of the country signed the Annual Performance Agreement with University Grants Commission for the fiscal year 2017-2018 for establishing good governance and excellence at the higher educational institutions at a ceremony held in the capital on Monday.
Secretary of UGC Md Khaled and university registrars signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations, said a press release on Monday.
UGC chairman professor Abdul Mannan attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest with UGC member professor M Shah Nowaz Ali in the chair.
In his speech, professor Mannan urged the vice-chancellors to properly implement the annual performance agreement for establishing good governance and excellence at the universities.
Jahangirnagar University vice-chanchellor professor Farzana Islam and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University vice-chancellor professor Kamrul Hasan Khan spoke at the event on behalf of the vice-chancellors, said the release.
Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan urged the university authorities to project the visible development of the country’s tertiary level education to the nation. He termed the UGC’s initiative timely and encouraging.
The speakers at the programme expressed their condolences for the recent landslides-affected people and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family members, added the release.
Vice-chancellors, registrars of the public universities and high officials from UGC, among others, were present on the occasion.
