The three-day national fruits fair, organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension, ended on Sunday in the capital with distribution of prizes among participating government organisations, private institutions and individuals for growing and showcasing various types of fruits at the fair.
The chairman of parliamentary standing committee on agriculture ministry, Mokbul Hossain, distributed certificates and crests among the winners, said a DEA press release.
The DAE received the first prize for showcasing various species of fruits at the national fruits fair, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation got the second prize while Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute and Department of Agricultural Marketing were jointly declared third.
Among the participating private institutions, super-shop Agora was declared first, Swapno second
and Pran RFL third for exhibiting various fruits at the fair.
Wahidul Alam of Chittagong, Sujan Chakma of Khagrachari, Akhil Bandhu Ghosh of Khulna
won first, second and third prizes respectively in the individual category for growing fruits on their own initiative.
The organisers also awarded people who grew fruits on their rooftop in Dhaka. Mamunur Rashid of Mirpur received first prize while Shahidul Kabir of Dhanmondi came second and SA Jahan of Ramna and Taher of Mohammadpur jointly received the third prize.
DAE officials said that about 152 varieties of fruits, including 60 species of mangoes, were displayed at the fair that began on June 16.
A total of 75 stalls were set up by government and private organisations that showcased fruits from the northern and central regions of the country.
