At least seven people were killed and 17 more injured in road accidents in Madaripur, Chittagong, Manikganj and Munshiganj on Sunday.
Three people were killed and 15 others injured in a bus and a truck collided head-on on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway at Rajoir upazila at about 8:30am on Sunday, United News of Bangladesh reports.
Two of the deceased were identified as Shuvo Ghosh, 22, son of Swapan Kumar Ghosh of Sariakandi upazila in Bogra, and Saidur Rahman Khan, 40, son of Mahiuddin Khan of Gaurnadi upazila in Barisal.
Police said the Dhaka-bound bus collided with the mango-laden truck at Kamaldi, leaving two bus passengers dead on the spot and 16 others injured.
One died on the way to hospital while the other injured were taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex and Madaripur Sadar Hospital, said Rajoir Police Station officer-in-charge Kamrul Hasan.
Traffic movement on the highway remained halted for about two hours following the accident.
The New Age correspondent in Chittagong reported that a college student was killed and two other were injured in an accident at Mojaffarabad area in Patia upazila at about 11:00am.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Hossain Sayem, 20, a HSC second-year-student of BGC Trust College and son of Mahbubul Alam from Kanchannagar area of Chandanaish upazila.
Patia Highway Police in-charge ABM Mizanur Rahman said that a Chandanaish bound BRTC bus hit a Patia bound motorcycle, leaving motorcycle rider Sayem dead on the spot.
The injured were under treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said CMCH police outpost assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Alauddin.
New Age correspondent in Manikganj reported that an assistant of a truck driver and a bicycle rider were killed in accidents on Dhaka‑Paturia Highway under Shibalaya upazila.
The bicycle rider was identified as Afsar Uddin, 55, son of Kafil Uddin of Bhawalkandi village in Shibalaya upazila and the assistant was identified as Suboj Mia, 25, son of Sirajul Islam, of Shibaliya village in Noakhali Sadar.
Borongail Highway Police in-charge Yamiin-ud-Daula said Suboj was killed on the spot when a Paturia-bound truck slam into his truck from behind at Arpara area at about 5:30am.
Police seized the truck but its driver and assistant managed to get away.
In another accident, Afsar was killed on the spot when a Dhaka-bound truck hit his bicycle in front of Tepra BRAC office at about 6:00am.
The bodies were sent to Manikganj Medical Collage Hospital for autopsy.
New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reported that an assistant of a truck driver crushed under his own truck at Charchashi area under Gajaria at about 3:30pm.
The deceased was identified as Ashraful, 23, son of Babu Mia from Bashpara area under Kotwali thana in Jessore.
Gajarai Police Station officer-in-charge Younus Ali said assistant Ashraful was sleeping under the truck and the truck driver ran over him without knowing his whereabouts.
Locals rushed the assistant to Bhaberchar health complex where physicians declared him dead.
