President Abdul Hamid on Sunday asked the Information Commission to ease its procedures so that general people can easily have information applying the Right to Information Act 2009.
‘The Information Commission must continue its efforts to ease its processes to make sure that people get information easily applying the Right to Information Act,’ he said.
The president said this when a three-member delegation of the commission, led by chief information commissioner Professor Md Golam Rahman, submitted its Annual Report-2016 to him at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Noting that the Right to Information Act 2009 can play a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability at government and non-government officers, president Hamid stressed the need for launching a massive campaign to create mass awareness about the act at the grassroots level.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised the president of its different activities of the commission and various aspects of the report.
Professor Golam Rahman said the Information Commission received more applications from information seekers in 2016 compared to previous years.
