Ruling Awami League MP Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Sunday told the parliament that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Khaleda Zia was spreading falsehood by making ‘bad comments about prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Sweden visit’.
Hanif, also AL joint general secretary, called upon the BNP chairperson to refrain from spreading falsehood and making provocative statements against the government.
‘I was stunned by her [Khaleda’s] comments regarding prime minister’s Sweden tour. She made the false remarks out of her ignorance,’ Hanif said.
Hasina visited Sweden in June 13-17 accepting the invitation of her Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven.
Khaleda on Thursday slammed Hasina for going to Sweden at a time when landslides wreaked havoc in five districts killing at least 158 people.
‘She [Hasina] is on a pleasure trip even though 155 people, including army personnel, were killed in landslides as she has no affection for the people’ Khaleda said.
Hanif recalled that Sweden was one of the first friendly countries in Europe to recognise Bangladesh as an independent state.
About the government’s initiatives to overcome the post-landslide situation, he said the government had stood by the affected people. ‘Besides, necessary assistance was provided to cyclone Mora and flashflood-affected people as per directives of Sheikh Hasina,’ he said.
