BSF picks up Bangladeshi farmer from Lalmonirhat

Indian Border Security Force members allegedly picked up a Bangladeshi farmer from Amjhol frontier under Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat on Friday.
The victim, Shafiqul Islam, 30, a farmer of Amjhol area, was working on his own land near the border but BSF members picked up him at about 3:30pm, Lalmonirhat Border Guard Bangladesh battalion director Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed told New Age.
A patrol team of BSF of Kutchbihar district’s Paglibari 100-BSF battalion also opened gunfire at Shafiqul, he said.
He said that they urged BSF battalion for a flag meeting for the return of Shafiqul, but BSF was yet to respond.
Border guard sources and local people said that Shafiqul suffered bullet injuries and was also beaten up by the BSF members.
