National Achieves of Bangladesh observed International Archives Day by organising a programme featuring discussion and screening of a documentary at its seminar room in Agargaon on Thursday.
The celebrations programme was organised one day ahead of the International Archives Day, which will be celebrated across the globe today with the slogan ‘Archives, Citizenship and Inter-culturalism.’
International Council of Archives declared July 9 as International Archive Day in 2007.
Cultural affairs minister Asuaduzzaman Noor was present at the progrmame as the chief guest. Acting secretary of the ministry Mohammad Ibrahim Hossain Khan, director of National Archives and Library Department Mohammad Mojibur Rahman Al-Mamun, among others were also present at the programme.
In his speech Noor said, ‘Unfortunately, people in Bangladesh do not know or care much about archives. Only the researches sometimes use it. So, we have to work on for attracting the common people at the archives.’
Earlier, Tanvir Mokammel’s war-based documentary film titled ‘Muktisangramer Itikatha’ was screened.
The film features history of the struggles of the people of the country for freedom, including Sepoy Mutiny in 1857, the Language Movement in 1952 and the war of independence in 1971.
Asaduzzaman Noor lent voice as a narrator in the documentary featuring footages of historic movements.
