Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Thursday proposed a number of tax measures in favour of the information communication technology sector and local manufacturers of ICT products.
In the proposed budget for the next fiscal year of 2017-18, Muhith proposed to bring eight IT sectors under the tax exemption facility.
The sectors include software or application customisation, web site development, web site hosting, digital data analytics, software test lab services, overseas medical transcription, robotics process outsourcing and cyber security services.
Muhith also proposed reducing duty and taxes on computer monitor, laptop monitor, tab, keyboard, mouse, lithium ion battery and speaker to 1 per cent from the existing 25 per cent.
The duty and taxes on transformer, capacitor, resistor and camera protective lens have been proposed to be reduced to 1 per cent from 10 per cent.
