Kushtia cop gets 6-month jail for second marriage

A court in Kushtia sentenced a member of Criminal Investigation Department of police to six-month imprisonment on Tuesday for marrying second time without taking permission from his first wife.
The convict policeman is subinspector Towhidul Islam of Jessore CID, hailing from village Nagar Saota of Kumarkhali upazila.
The court of additional chief judicial magistrate FM Mezbaul Haque passed the order in the afternoon.
According to the complaint, Towhidul got married with Lutfunnahar Runa of village Lahinpara of Kumarkhali in 1990.
Runa filed the case under Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961, against her husband in 2010 as he married another woman without taking her permission.
The court also fined Towhidul Tk 2,000, in default he must serve two more months in jail.
Local people said that Towhidul has several wives in different areas and proceedings of five more cases are underway against him.
