Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said a ‘hostile’ atmosphere had been created all over the world not only in Bangladesh.
‘All are clinging to power flexing muscle power, and trampling democracy, human rights and freedom of press,’ Fakhrul said addressing a greetings exchange function.
Newly announced Dhaka south city unit BNP organised the programme at Dhaka hotel to exchange greetings with journalists.
Referring to just concluded Arab-Islamic-US summit in Riyadh, the BNP leader said it was interesting that American president Trump attended the conference of the Muslim countries of the Middle East.
He said it could be said that Trump ‘presided’ over the conference.
He said he did not want to say anything about Trump but everybody of the world knew what he (Trump) was saying and doing. It should be taken into consideration, he added.
Turning to local politics, he expressed hope that good sense would prevail upon the government and allow them to hold public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on May 24.
BNP leaders including Abdul Awal Mintoo, Ataur Rahman Dhali and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi addressed the meeting presided over by Dhaka south city unit president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and conducted by general secretary Kazi Abul Bashar.
