The ministry of disaster management and relief on Sunday published the guideline on ‘management of the dead after disasters - 2016’ for use during emergencies.
The guideline, first of its kind document, will help ensure dignified and proper management of casualties together with the international committee of the Red Cross.
Quoting experts, the ICRC said this document will further work to safeguard the dignity of deceased victims, contribute to restoring their identity, return them to their families, ensure respectful disposal of their remains, and help alleviate the sufferings of communities traumatised by any natural or manmade disasters.
This guideline will further focus on the roles and responsibilities of government agencies from the management of the dead perspective.
It has clear instructions explaining who will be in charge of the recovery of bodies, their identification, disposal of those to families and providing necessary information the families look for their members following a disaster.
Disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, disaster management secretary M Shah Kamal, director general of department of disaster management Riaz Ahmed and head of delegation, ICRC Dhaka Ikhtiyar Aslanov were present.
