A primary schoolgirl was killed and four others were injured in a clash between two families in Habiganj Thursday night, following a dispute over a piece of land.
The deceased was identified as Marzia Akter, 10, a class four student of Bobobazar Government Model Primary School in the locality and daughter of Motalib Miah, of Dokantula village under Baniachang upazila, police said.
Locals said there was a longstanding enmity between Mudabbir Miah and his brother Motalib Miah over ownership of a piece of land.
On Thursday around 9:00pm, members of the both families were locked into a clash following an altercation over the ownership of the land that killed Marzia and injured four others, including her parents.
Baniachang police officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque confirmed the death of Marzia and said she was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition after the incident and she died there Friday morning.
The victim’s mother Fatema Begum was also admitted at the same hospital after the incident, the police said.
He said Friday afternoon that the victim’s body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital for autopsy and legal steps would also be taken after receiving a written complaint in this regard.
